China’s Visa-Free Travel Policies
China offers various visa-free travel policies to foreigners from multiple countries, including the introduction of a “port visa” for emergencies, expansion of the 144-hour visa-free transit policy, and visa-free entry for Australia and New Zealand. Tourist groups arriving by cruise can also enjoy visa-free access. Additionally, visa-free travel has been extended to six European countries, and a 30-day visa-free policy has been introduced in Hainan province for various entry purposes.
Port Visa Application Process
As of July 18, travelers facing emergencies can apply for a “port visa” via email to bjcrjka@nia.gov.cn to receive a ‘Pre-Acceptance Receipt’ for flights to China. They must complete the visa application process at Port Visa Offices in Beijing airports, with an allowed stay of up to 30 days. The 144-hour visa-free transit policy has also been expanded to include more ports in various provinces.
Expansion to Australia and New Zealand
China has expanded its unilateral visa-free policy to include Australia and New Zealand for up to 15 days. Additionally, visa-free entry for foreign tourist groups arriving by cruise was introduced in May 2024, allowing a stay of up to 15 days. The country has also expanded its visa-free travel policy to six European countries and extended the 30-day visa-free policy to Hainan province for several entry purposes excluding work and study.
