China Expands 144-Hour Visa-Free Transit Policy
China has recently expanded its 144-hour visa-free transit policy, allowing travelers from 54 countries to visit select areas without the need for a visa. Zhengzhou in Henan Province and eight cities in Yunnan Province have been included in this policy expansion. The main objective of this policy is to promote people-to-people exchange, with specific requirements that must be met by travelers.
Expanded Coverage and Eligibility
As of July 15, 2024, the 144-hour visa-free transit policy now covers 54 countries and 37 ports in China. Travelers can enjoy six days of travel without a visa, with Zhengzhou in Henan Province and additional cities in Yunnan Province being part of the designated areas. This expansion is part of China’s ongoing efforts to encourage cultural exchange and tourism within the country.
How the Policy Works and Requirements
Foreign travelers from eligible countries can benefit from the 144-hour visa-free transit policy by entering and exiting China through designated ports and staying within approved cities and regions. Additionally, travelers must meet specific requirements set by the National Immigration Administration (NIA) to qualify for the visa exemption. If these conditions are met, travelers can enjoy a six-day stay in China hassle-free.
